Schools Look to Tighten Budget

• Ahead of a public hearing on the FY 26 budget planned for Jan. 14, the Needham Public Schools are looking to decrease the bottom line by $2.5 million.

When Superintendent Dan Gutekanst presented his initial plan for the FY 26 budget, the outlook was that revenues would allow for growth and development in key areas. Over the past month, those projections have changed, as the town anticipates greater health care costs and decreased town revenues. This has left administration looking for ways to pare down their expectations for the upcoming year. As he reported to the school committee at their meeting Jan. 7, the decisions they have to make are not easy ones.
