Michael Brophy Presents The Orphan Train Movement
November 30, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
From 1854 to 1929, over 200,000 children were transported by train from New York to the Midwest and beyond and adopted by new families. The program was organized by reformers in New York in an attempt to both remove them from the squalor and poverty of the city and help provide labor for farms out west. Michael Brophy, professional genealogical researcher, heir search specialist, and lecturer from the Boston area, will explore the history, genealogy, and legacy of the movement in this interesting presentation. Brophy has conducted research for Who Do You Think you Are? TV show and Ancestry.com
