Budget Restraints Impact School Staffing
January 31, 2025
• Needham Public Schools prepare to reduce staff to compensate for an anticipated $2.25 million budget shortfall.
After wrestling with the numbers over the course of the last month, the Needham Public School Department placed a plan in front of the School Committee which brings the district in line with the larger town budget proposal. While admitting that the choices made were difficult, Superintendent Dan Gutekanst offered that he thought the new proposal was the department’s best way to maintain its high standards in lean economic times. As Municipal Producer Yuxiao Yuan reports, the reduced budget will have impacts felt across the system.
