Keeping the Season

December 18, 2025
• The town found many ways to celebrate around the holidays, and to give back a little bit to their community.

Over the last two weeks groups of Needham residents gathered at a number of locations to remember those who make this time of year special. Two events honored American veterans by bringing on a little holiday cheer, and another celebrated the season of lights by shedding a little of their own.

On Thursday, December 11th, veterans from area VA hospitals went to the VFW Post 2498 for a special holiday dinner. From bagpipes to games, many volunteers made the day a festive occasion for the veterans and sent them home with more than just warm thoughts for the holidays.

Another annual tradition honored those veterans who have passed. Needham has for many years participated in the “Wreaths Across America” event. Growing each year, it provided participants with moments of quiet reflection and an appreciation for the sacrifices made, and gave them a chance to say thank you.

In the wake of the mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Australia, an sense of urgency was added to the Menorah lighting at the Chabad’s Fire and Ice celebration on the Needham Town Common. Crowds celebrated at the annual event in a display of togetherness and community.
