Large House Review Closes on Financial Study

• In their final public comment session, the Large House Review Study Committee presented their take on the financial impact of potential house size restrictions.
Time is getting short for the Large House Review Study Committee. In December, they are expected to present their findings and make recommendations on proposals that address the rapid replacement of Needham’s current housing stock with larger, more expensive homes. In the last of three community feedback sessions, they presented their findings on the potential cost of three scenarios that would limit the size and scope of home construction.
Focusing on how such restrictions might limit purchase and sales prices, tax revenue and the profit margins of developments, some questioned whether the scope of the study should have included the costs larger projects might impose on their neighbors. Feedback from the session will be considered prior to the LHR Study Committee presentation to the Planning Board next month.
