Needham Soccer Closes Out Regular Season with Two Wins
October 31, 2025
• Boys soccer improved to 12-3-3 with their win over Walpole, while the girls finished 15-2-1 after defeating Concord-Carlisle.
Needham’s boys and girls soccer teams closed their regular seasons with strong wins at home this week.
The boys kicked things off with a dominant 4-1 win over Walpole on Monday, Oct. 27, with all four goals scored by seniors on their senior night. The girls followed with a 2-0 win over No. 10 ranked Concord-Carlisle on Wednesday, Oct. 29, extending their win streak t0 11 games.
On Monday, the Rockets took a 1-0 lead over the Timberwolves about 10 minutes into the game thanks to Conor O’Brien, who scored on a one-timer after a bad touch by a Walpole defender. But the Timberwolves answered, scoring less than a minute later. The two teams went into the half tied at one, though Needham had plenty of scoring opportunities and controlled most of the play.
O’Brien put Needham back on top, 2-1, six minutes into the second half with a header off a great cross from Nils Svensson. With 16 minutes left to play, Matteo Neretti scored on a breakaway opportunity for his ninth goal of the season to put the Rockets up 3-1. The final goal came from captain Avery Brodsky four minutes later, who scored off the rebound of a shot from Emi Costa Farré.
With the win, the boys finished 12-3-3 on the season.
On Wednesday, the girls team defeated Concord-Carlisle 2-0 behind a strong offensive performance.
The Rockets dominated play early, firing off plenty of shots and forcing Patriot goalkeeper Aubrey Monaghan to make a bunch of saves. But Needham broke through with 23 minutes left in the first half when Hannah Levine scored her seventh goal of the season to make it 1-0. The Rockets had a few more chances in the half, but ultimately could not find the back of the net, going into halftime with a one goal lead.
Concord-Carlisle played better out of the break, but Needham continued to pressure them defensively. The Rockets earned a corner kick with 26 minutes to play, and Izzy Marino scored on a header off the cross from Sydney Kalaw to make it 2-0. Marino leads the team with 14 goals and 14 assists, while Kalaw now has 13 assists on the season. Needham’s defense continued to shine in the win, allowing minimal opportunities for the Patriots to put shots on freshman goalkeeper Maggie Peterson, and shutting out an opponent for the 11th game in a row.
Both teams now wait for the release of their respective tournament brackets to find out who they will matchup against in the first round. Those brackets will be released on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. and can be found here.
