New Tree Committee Taking Root
November 7, 2024
• After previous attempts stalled, the town is renewing efforts to preserve its shade trees.
It is an issue with a simple mission and a difficult road to navigate. While it is easy to say preserving and expanding the tree cover in town is important, there are matters of public and private property rights, town character versus town growth and more. Finding a way to get the community on board with a common vision, and a plausible way to implement a new set of practices will be a big reach. Municipal Producer Yuxiao Yuan explores the charge of the committee with Heidi Frail, the Needham Select Board’s vice chair. Frail is pulling together the people who will take on this challenge, and believes the time to act is now.
