Rethinking Plastic Waste 2.0
February 22, 2024
• Members of the Green Needham Collaborative submitted a Citizens’ Petition to ask Town Meeting to vote on banning additional single-use plastic items in town.
In January, a new ban on single-use plastics came into effect, mostly centered on the business community and its dependence on plastic bags. Just a couple months later, a new proposal aims on taking things a step further, this time targeting the food industry, which similarly utilizes materials that have a negative ecological impact. As the petition works its way to this spring’s Town Meeting floor, will there be a growing appetite for change, or will the industry push back on this effort?
