Needham and the State Budget
September 28, 2023
• Representative Denise Garlick attended the Select Board meeting on September 26, 2023 to share some highlights of the Fiscal Year 2024 state budget and to inform the community about the local aid Needham should expect.
Governor Maura Healey signed the Massachusetts FY’24 Budget into law in August, allocating hard-won funds to the various communities in the Commonwealth. While some of the outlined funds were easy to trace to a bottom line, other categories of funds take a longer time to establish. State Representative Denise Garlick presented an update on the process to the Needham Select Board on Tuesday night.
The presentation broke down into a discussion of what goals and initiatives were prioritized by the Commonwealth, and how that translates into funding, where Massachusetts stands in the collection of funds generated during the current fiscal year, and a look at the priorities for the legislative session ahead. Representative Garlick also gave a review of the issues she will be addressing as the Chair of the House Committee on Education.
