New Pollard Reaches Summer Milestone

June 18, 2026
• The Needham School Committee voted on the final draft of the schematic design for the new Pollard Middle School at their meeting on June 16.

Schools may be letting out for summer this week, but administrators and members of the Permanent Public Building Committee continue to prepare the Pollard Middle School project for a Special Town Meeting this October. At its last meeting of the school year, the Needham School Committee discussed the latest look of the proposed new school, as the town presented the completed schematic design in advance of submitting it to the Massachusetts School Building Authority for approval. Before the MSBA submission, the design will also require approval from the School Building Committee, which meets Monday night.

This important step solidifies much of the information necessary for the school department to make its case for the funding needed for the project, first to the Select Board, then Town Meeting, and ultimately to the voters of Needham. A series of summer community workshops are in the works to help raise awareness and build community support, kicking off with one at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30 in the Pollard auditorium. That meeting will also be available on Zoom.

Municipal Producer Melissa Marchese has more information on the School Committee discussion.
