• The report reviewed mental health calls, drug overdoses, handcuffing, and other areas of focus the NPD have tracked for the past year.

At the Needham Select Board meeting on May 26, Needham Police Chief John Schlittler and Deputy Police Chief Chris Baker presented the 2025 annual year-end review. The year-end review provided Needham residents with a snapshot of the services and activities provided by the department.

Among the data and statistics that were collected was a comprehensive analysis of the crimes and incidents that occurred within the town and how Needham police officers responded to.

Schlittler and Baker also shared details on department staff and how they were deployed. There were 46 sworn officers in 2025. Division updates included traffic and community safety, patrol operations, and more information on investigative services, as well as the efforts of the professional standards division.

During the meeting, Needham Select Board members voiced their concerns over some trends that have increased in recent years. Municipal Producer Melissa Marchese breaks down five areas of interest. You can also view the police department report in full on their website.
