NHS to Explore Student Internships This Fall

May 21, 2026
• With help from the Needham Education Foundation, the Needham Public Schools is hoping to give high school students real experience in the commercial and non-profit workspace.

For the past 36 years, the Needham Education Foundation has been partnering with the Needham Public Schools to enrich the educational lives of Needham students beyond what is typically expected or allowed by public funding. With grants of all sizes, they contribute approximately $100,000 per year in projects, programs and events at every grade level.

This year’s spring grants include an ambitious new addition to Needham High School. Seeking to build connections between the local business community and the schools, they are looking to pilot a multi-year program that will create and coordinate student internship opportunities. While the high school already has an existing program for student work experiences, the grant will allow the hiring of a part-time position to expand participation by a minimum of 80 additional internship, work experiences and job shadowing opportunities for high school seniors.

The NEF presented this proposal to the Needham School Committee at their May 19 meeting. Melissa Marchese reports.
