Softball Dominates Natick, Girls Lacrosse Wins Double Overtime Thriller Against Milton
May 8, 2026
• Both teams picked up two wins this week.
Needham softball earned a dominant 15-3 win over Natick on May 4, while girls lacrosse defeated Milton, 12-11, in double overtime on May 5.
The Rockets’ offense was on full display for softball against the Redhawks, picking up 15 hits over just four innings. Kaitlyn Cheng pitched an excellent game in the circle, allowing just five hits and three runs across five innings. She struck out one while not allowing a single walk.
Cheng led off the second inning with a double, followed by a walk by Bailey O’Hearn. With no outs, Audrey Muzikant hit an RBI single to put Needham on the board. O’Hearn scored on an error by the Natick catcher to make it 2-0 Rockets. With the bases loaded, Maddie Navales hit a three-run single to centerfield, and advanced all the way to third on an error.
Up by five, Liv Kirschner hit an RBI double to extend the Needham lead, and before long, the Rockets had the bases loaded again. In O’Hearn’s second at-bat of the inning, she hit a bases-clearing three-run double to make it 9-0, before Muzikant hit another RBI single. One more run scored for Needham in the second on a fielder’s choice, putting them up 11-0.
Natick struggled to get its offense going against Cheng, as she continuously induced ground balls and limited traffic on the bases.
The Rockets used their bench in the fourth inning and with two outs, Naomi Dabuzhsky hit a double and was later brought home by an RBI single from Annie Silverman. Navales added an RBI double to finish the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Katie Murray followed with a towering two-run home run to left field to make it 15-0 Needham.
Natick was able to score three runs in the top of the fifth, but a groundout ended the game via the mercy rule (up by 10 runs after five innings).
The Rockets improved to 7-2 on the season with the win, before beating Milton, 9-6, on May 7. They will go on the road to face Weymouth, a team they beat 13-3 to start their season, on Monday, May 11.
The following day, girls lacrosse earned a thrilling win over Milton in double overtime, thanks to a seven-goal performance from Frankie Adams.
Adams put Needham on the board just 40 seconds into the game, before the Wildcats scored two goals within two minutes of each other to take a 2-1 lead. Adams tied the game at two with 4:11 remaining in the first, but Anna Leddy scored less than a minute after, giving Milton a 3-2 lead at the end of the quarter.
The teams exchanged goals in the second quarter before the Wildcats went on a 3-0 run to take an 8-5 lead into halftime. Milton outscored Needham 5-3 in the quarter, with Adams scoring twice for the Rockets and Lila Jantzen adding the other goal.
The Rockets came out of the halftime break with solid adjustments, scoring four unanswered goals while holding Milton scoreless to take a 9-8 lead. Freshman goalkeeper Lilly Fletcher made two key saves during the run, while Adams scored another two goals, bringing her total to six on the game.
Milton tied the game in the fourth with a goal from Maeve Lovett with 1:52 left in the game, forcing overtime.
Fletcher made a huge save to keep Needham alive in the first three minute sudden death overtime period, and Adams scored the game winning goal in the second period, giving the Rockets their first win since April 7.
With a victory over Weymouth on May 7, the Rockets have a two-game win streak for the first time this season. They will visit Norwell on May 9 for an out-of-conference matchup.
