Boys Soccer Shutout at Home by Natick

October 3, 2024
• After winning five in a row, Needham has dropped two straight.

Needham Boys Soccer is one of the most successful programs in the state of Massachusetts. Although they last won a state title in 2014, they’ve been in three of the last four MIAA Division 1 championship games, including each of the last two. This season they had a five win streak going just a week ago, but are on a bit of a downturn to start October.

After dropping a 2-1 game to St. John’s Prep in a neutral site game on Saturday, September 28th, the Rockets followed that up with a tough 2-0 loss at the friendly confines of Brock Field at DeFazio Park to Natick on Tuesday, October 1st. It’s just the second time this season the Rockets have failed to score, with a 3-0 defeat at Newton South back on September 7th being the other.

Needham had won games against Braintree, Walpole, Milton, Newton North and Wellesley during their five game win streak. Their loss to Natick was the first to a Bay State Conference team so far this fall.

The game against the Redhawks was low scoring throughout, with only one goal scored until the final minute of the game and both goals by Natick came in the second half. Austin Debeshter and Kallon Masse scored for Natick. Jadon Connors had the shutout for the Redhawks in net, and despite the two goals, Needham Sophomore Keeper Said Jabrayilzade held his own for most the way.

The Rockets will host Weymouth on Saturday, October 5th at 4pm from Memorial Field. They will return to Brock Field on Monday, October 7th to host Milton at 4pm and then a non league game against Bedford on Thursday, October 10th, at 4:30pm.
