Field Hockey Ties Framingham, Girls Volleyball Sweeps the Flyers

October 28, 2026
• Both teams celebrated their senior nights against the Flyers this week.

Needham field hockey finished their home slate of the regular season with a 1-1 tie against Framingham on Oct. 26, extending their winless streak to eight games. The following day, girls volleyball swept the Flyers (25-16, 25-11, 25-12) to snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 12-6 on the season.

Since defeating Braintree 2-1 on Sept. 30, field hockey has lost five games and earned three ties, bringing their record to 3-10-3.

The Rockets got on the board first in the second quarter with a goal from junior Emma Fava, her first of the season. But Framingham answered just over two minutes later with a breakaway goal to tie the game.

With just over two minutes left in the game, sophomore Kathryn Brinkhaus got a shot off for Needham, but the Flyers’ goalie made a nice save to keep the game tied.

Needham dominated possession throughout the contest, but fell from No. 24 in the MIAA Division One Power Rankings to No. 25. They will go on the road to face No. 12 Natick for their final regular season game.

Girls volleyball got back in the win column against Framingham after dropping their past three matches, all in five sets.

In their fifth game in six days, the Rockets dominated the Flyers, getting plenty of players on the score sheet. Senior Sam Sullivan, who is out for the season with an injury, came in to serve and played some points during each set. She finished her senior night with four aces, two digs and a kill.

Framingham kept it close early in the first set, trailing the Rockets 12-10. But Needham went on an eight-point run to take a commanding 18-10 lead. The Flyers got back within four points, but couldn’t overcome the deficit as the Rockets won the first set 25-16, with set point being scored by junior Arianna Tu on a setter dump.

Needham jumped out to a 19-3 lead in the second set, their largest lead of the match. They continued to roll, though Framingham made it slightly closer, and took a 2-0 match lead after winning the second set 25-11.

Tied at six in the third, the Rockets outscored the Flyers 19-6 the rest of the way to take the set 25-12 and complete the sweep. Sullivan scored the final point for Needham, a fitting end to senior night.

Junior Sylvie Kim led the team with six kills, while senior Avery Ching added five. Four Rockets added five aces in the victory: Tu, sophomore Daniela Hatziiliades,  senior Lilian Soulia and junior Iris Zhang.

The Rockets will travel to No. 11 Natick on Thursday, Oct. 9, for their final match of the regular season.

Playoff brackets for field hockey and girls volleyball will be released by the MIAA on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
