Staying Safe Amid Up-Tick in Ticks
July 27, 2026
• Needham’s Public Health Division advised residents on how to stay safe during peak tick season.
Hiding amongst grass and green, tiny little creatures reach out their arms, hungry for blood and in search of their next host. Whether out camping, walking your dog or simply exploring nature, ticks can pose health risks to those with whom they come into contact.
Despite their small stature — often the size of a poppyseed — ticks can spread serious illness by attaching themselves to humans, pets and other animals.
Even if you don’t consider yourself to be the outdoorsy type, the Needham Public Health Division is sharing the importance of protecting yourself against the pests.
Municipal Producer Melissa Marchese spoke with Julie McCarthy, an assistant director of the Needham Public Health Division — who previously worked at Tufts University School of Medicine researching one of these serious tick-borne health conditions — on all things ticks.
