Needham Post 14 Earns Big Win At Home

• After playing four games in four days, Post 14 is 3-1 on the season.
Needham Legion Baseball defeated Medfield Post 110, 16-6, in five innings on June 17 behind a dominant offensive performance.
Post 14 scored a season-high 16 runs on 17 hits in the victory.
Medfield got on the board in the top of the first when Cormer Lang hit an RBI single off of Needham pitcher Jonathan Francescone. Post 14 had an opportunity to answer in the bottom half with two men on base, but Medfield pitcher Eric Gelormini worked out of the jam.
After walking the first two batters in the top of the second, Francescone got out of trouble by inducing a big 1-5-3 double play and recording the third out. Needham took advantage in the bottom of the inning with two consecutive singles. Will Cassidy was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. David Ching cleared the bases with a three-run double to put Post 14 up 3-1, before being thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a triple.
Medfield tied the game at three in the top of the third with a two-run single from Ethan Ambrose. Post 14 responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning to take a commanding 9-3 lead. Colin O’Donnell highlighted the inning with a two-run single to left field.
Francescone exited the game in the top of the fourth after recording one out. He finished the day with 3 1/3 innings pitched, allowing three hits and three earned runs while walking five batters.
Medfield was held scoreless in the top of the fourth, and Needham added three more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Ching and O’Donnell each added another RBI to their totals, while another run scored on a Medfield error. Post 110 answered with three runs in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 12-6. But Needham added four more runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game via the run rule (up by 10 after five innings). O’Donnell hit the final runner home for Post 14, as Needham improved to 3-1 on the season.
Ching led the offense, going 3-for-3 with a double and six RBIs. O’Donnell added four RBIs while going 4-for-5.
Needham will host Norton Post 222 on Friday, June 19 at 7 p.m. at Memorial Park.
