April 3, 2026
• Needham girls lacrosse went 1-1 this week.
Needham girls lacrosse defeated Weymouth 13-7 on March 31, earning their first win under new head coach Gianna Cottrell.
Four Rockets scored at least three goals in the win: junior Frankie Adams (4), junior Lila Jantzen (3), junior Halli Kamke (3) and sophomore Paige Moyer (3).
Weymouth controlled the opening draw, but Needham goalie Lilly Fletcher made her first save of the day on a wide-open look for the Wildcats. After a few minutes, Moyer put the Rockets up 1-0 with her fourth goal of the season. Weymouth responded with a goal of their own just over a minute later, but it was all Needham from there.
The Rockets went on to control six straight draws, and their first seven shots on goal all scored. Adams, Jantzen and Kamke each netted two in the first quarter, giving Needham a 7-1 lead heading into the second.
The second quarter moved at a much slower pace, with the Rockets scoring just one goal from Jantzen. Despite that, Needham continued to dominate, controlling both draws and stopping all three of Weymouth’s shots on goal.
Moyer added her second goal of the game early in the third after Needham’s ninth straight draw control. Weymouth finally found the back of the net again with 8:22 left in the quarter, snapping the Rockets’ eight-goal run. Fletcher played an excellent quarter, making five saves on seven shots to keep Needham in control.
Weymouth outscored Needham 4-2 in the fourth quarter, but the Rockets held on to pick up their first win of the season. Adams added her fourth goal in the quarter, while Moyer scored her third to complete the hat trick.
Needham won 14 of 23 draws in the game and shot accurately, scoring on 13 of 17 shots on goal (76.5%). Meanwhile, the Wildcats outshot the Rockets 18-17, but converted on just seven shots (38.9%).
The Rockets lost their following game to Brookline, 15-9, on April 2, falling to 1-2 on the season. Their next game will be on the road at Braintree on Tuesday, April 7.
