Schools Face Challenges in Town Budget
January 8, 2026
• Needham Town Manager Katie King explained why the budget for FY27 will face challenges.
As the Needham School Department works its way through budget discussions with the School Committee, a key presentation each January is the consultation with the town manager. It is the board’s first chance to weigh the needs of the students and educators of Needham against the fiscal reality being faced by the town. With increasing costs outpacing revenues, and a likely budget gap ranging in the millions of dollars, the schools and the town are likely to be tightening their belts over the next few weeks. Ashley Julier summarizes the conversation held at the School Committee’s Jan. 6 meeting.
