Why Needham is Suing over Water Restrictions

• The town has joined other communities in suing the state over restrictions being placed on water usage. Here’s why they think one-size-regulations don’t necessarily fit all.
When water restrictions were placed on the town despite a wet and rainy spring, many residents learned for the first time that use of Needham’s own water wells could be limited by the state. The Department of Public Works has been navigating a sea of changing rules and regulations over the years and has been working with other municipalities that find the system in place in Massachusetts doesn’t fit the present circumstances. Municipal Producer Yuxiao Yuan looks at the history behind the move and what the town is hoping to accomplish, both in and out of court.
