Needham Post 14 Sweeps First Three Home Games
June 19, 2025
• Needham Legion Baseball played on back to back to back nights and won all three contests.
After an historic summer of 2024, Needham Legion Baseball Post 14 is back looking to make another big run in the District 6 standings and postseason. After starting 1-1, the team played their first home games of the season with games on three straight nights, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 16-18, winning all three games to improve to 4-1 on the summer.
On Monday night, Post 14 jumped out to an early 6-0 lead on Norton Post 222, with all six of their runs coming in the bottom of the first. With Connor Falahee and Adam Hess already on base after a single and walk respectively, Will O’Donnell then hit an RBI single scoring Falahee for the game’s first run.
After a Colin O’Donnell walk to load the bases, Rowan Daly then smacked a two run single to right, bringing home Hess and Will O’Donnell to give Needham a 3-0 advantage. Will Saratella was next and he hit an RBI single scoring Colin O’Donnell and Daly to make it 4-0. With one out and Daly on third, David Ching hit a sacrifice fly that brought home Saratella.
Other than a three run fifth inning, Pitcher Nick Buckley dominated Norton, striking out ten batters in six innings of work. Saratella then came on in the seventh inning, picking up one strikeout en route to a save, as Post 14 won it 6-3.
On Tuesday night, Needham came back to win on a walkoff by George Mutrie to beat Natick 4-3. With two straight home wins, Post 14 was hoping to keep the good times rolling on Wednesday, when they welcomed in Franklin Post 75.
Down 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Needham rallied in the bottom of the inning with five runs to take a 5-2 lead. Franklin answered with two in the third, but Post 14 extended their lead in the 5th with two more runs to make it 7-4, then another in the 6th. Franklin got one back in the 7th, but Needham held on for an 8-5 victory.
