Fighting Loneliness Among Seniors During the Holidays
December 14, 2023
• While the holidays are festive for most, senior citizens can often feel isolated due to changing family situations. The Needham Council on Aging wants them to know that they are not alone.
The period between Thanksgiving and the end of the year can pose challenges for anyone. The stress of making the perfect meal, getting the perfect gift, or creating a lasting memory for your family can put a lot of pressure on you, no matter how old you are. For the aging population, there is often a different kind of stress. Families move away, your circle of friends grows smaller, and getting around isn’t as easily done as in previous years. All of this can make the joy and celebration of the holidays a little oppressive, and more than a little lonely. The Needham Council on Aging is well aware of that, and want you to know that they are there for you. In their own words, they are hoping to share that, as long as your hearts and minds are open, you are not truly alone.
