TNC Fall Sports Playoff Coverage Begins Thursday

November 2, 2023
• Needham Channel Sports will be covering 5 Rockets teams this November.

One of the best Fall Sports regular seasons in recent Needham history is about to head to postseason play, with matchups, dates and times released by the MIAA. The Needham Channel will be following five Rockets teams, with Girls Volleyball, Field Hockey, Football, Boys and Girls Soccer all opening their playoffs over the next four days.

It all starts tonight, Thursday, November 2nd at 5:30pm as Girls Volleyball hosts Central Catholic from the NHS A Gym. Although The Needham Channel has been experiencing some technical difficulties with our outdoor live feeds, our indoor systems have been working well and we will be carrying Girls Volleyball live on our Education and HD Channels and streaming online at needhamchannel.org. However, if the game goes past 7:30, it will be cutoff by our live Needham Channel News broadcast on the HD Channel and streaming feeds. It will air in its entirety on the Education Channel.

Needham Girls Volleyball, winners of two straight state titles in 2019 and 2021, finished the regular season at 14-3 and the 5 seed in the Division 1 bracket. Central Catholic, the 28 seed, comes in with a record of 7-13. UPDATE: Girls Volleyball defeated Central Catholic in three straight sets and will host Brookline in the next round, date and time TBA.

On Friday, November 3rd, the Needham Field Hockey team will be hosting Newton North at 4:30pm from DeFazio, and we will have a camera there to record highlights, which will be posted later that night. Across town, at Memorial Field, the Rockets Football team will welcome Westford Academy at 7pm. Again, we have been experiencing issues with our outdoor live signal, but we are planning to broadcast football live on our Community and HD Channels, as well as online.

Football finished with a regular season record of 7-1 and are the #3 seed in the Division 1 tourney. Westford Academy is the 14 seed, finishing at 5-3. Needham Field Hockey is the #12 seed in their D1 bracket, with a 13-5 record. Newton North is #21, with a record of 12-5-3.

Finally, on Sunday, November 5th, there will be a soccer doubleheader at 3 and 5pm, with the Needham Boys playing first, followed by the Girls, with both games scheduled to air live on our Community and HD Channels, as well as streaming online. The Needham Girls are the #12 seed in Division 1, ending the regular season at 8-5-5. They will host #21 Woburn, who comes in with a record of 9-4-5. The Boys, a D1 State Finalist a year ago, are the #2 seed, with a record of 14-2-2. They await the winner of #31 Lexington (8-4-7) and #34 Plymouth North (12-2-4), who play Friday at 4:30pm in Lexington.

Be sure to follow our social media channels on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and X for updates, pictures and highlights from our Rockets playoff coverage throughout November.

The Needham Channel’s streaming HD Channel can not only be seen at needhamchannel.org, but also on the TNC Roku App. The Community Channel can be seen on Comcast cable at channel 9, Astound (formerly RCN) at channel 15 and Verizon Fios Channel 29. The Education Channel can be seen at Comcast channel 8, Astound channel 3 and Verizon Fios channel 31. The HD Channel can be seen on Astound channel 613 and Verizon Fios channel 2129.
