Claxton Funding Delayed Due to DEP Demands
October 5, 2023
• Why Town Meeting will not be approving spending on a new Claxton Field this fall.
Originally slated to appear on this fall’s Special Town Meeting Warrant, the funding for the Claxton Field Renovation Project is on hold until spring. This is due to extra the steps the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection is requiring the Town to take to ensure the safety of those using the field, and to protect the area around it.
First coming to light in February, contamination issues stemming from the site’s history as an garbage incineration location caused testing to be done and designs to be reworked. Now those designs have new parameters, and the cost of the project is going up. Municipal Producer Yuxiao Yuan has the report.
