DESCRIPTION:The public is welcome to join the Kalmia Garden Club for our program\, “All About Irises\,” on Thursday\, September 10 at 7:00 p.m. at The Center at the Heights\, 300 Hillside Avenue in Needham \nOur presenter is Needham resident Glenn Mulno\, whose lifelong love of irises began in his parents’ garden\, where the irises were among the most beautiful and distinctive flowers they grew. Glenn’s own gardens now feature a mix of those cherished varieties—bringing back wonderful memories—along with many additional irises he has collected over the years. \nGlenn will share highlights from the remarkable diversity of irises and offer practical tips for growing and caring for them so they thrive and bloom beautifully. \nRefreshments served at 7 pm.

DESCRIPTION:Progressive Needham and the Center at the Heights are pleased to present an exclusive screening of the award-winning documentary\, The Day Iceland Stood Still.  The film is an iconic depiction of a successful social strike.  The day in 1975 that 90% of women in Iceland ‘took the day off’ rocked the nation and began a movement that has propelled the country from the bottom to the top of world gender equality indexes.  The documentary uses personal stories and animation to show how this massive\, humorous\, and urgent act of solidarity launched Iceland into a global leader of gender equality.  Stay for a conversation with Fredie Kay from the Women’s History Center and Deb Paul from Neighborhood United Indivisible following the film.\n\n

This free series\, is designed for parents and caregivers of children in grades 5–8. \nThis program provides parents with practical information about underage drinking and other substance use\, along with guidance and strategies for having age-appropriate\, meaningful conversations with their children.
