Cantata Singers to Perform Bach’s St. John Passion as Part of Great Hall Concert Series

March 14 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
$45

The Needham Bank Great Hall Concert Series will bring Cantata Singers to the Needham stage for a dramatic performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s emotionally gripping oratorio, St. John Passion. Premiering in 1724 and still resonant 302 years later, the piece blends intimate arias, turbulent choruses and haunting chorales into a deeply human musical experience.

Music director Noah Horn, whose work has been praised as “superb” (The New York Times), “well-prepared and joyful” (Detroit Free Press), “excellent,” and “fluent and fresh” (Opera News) will conduct the ensemble.

A uniquely modern chorale with deep roots in the past, built on a foundation of innovation and versatility, Cantata Singers promotes the rich heritage of choral music inspired by Bach’s musical genius. The group offers fresh, inspiring interpretations of iconic music interspersed with intriguing, unfamiliar and yet accessible works. Altogether, Cantata Singers has presented more than 50 Boston premieres of both old and new music.

“Cantata Singers are renowned for the beauty of their performances and for their commitment to introducing students to the magic of music. We share their focus on bringing the creative arts to new generations and are pleased that we can help support the performing arts in Needham’s Public Schools,” said Michael Greis, Co-President, Great Hall Performance Foundation.
