Girls Soccer Starts Season Hot

•  For the third year in a row, the Rockets have won their first three games. 

Needham girls soccer picked up right where they left off last season, winning the first three games of their 2026 campaign.

The Rockets (3-0) beat Weymouth (0-2) at home on Sept. 15, 6-0, after defeating Brookline 5-0 and Dover-Sherborn 2-1 last week.

Junior Viv Laporte opened the scoring four minutes into the game on a shot that hit off the crossbar and deflected off the Weymouth goalie into the net. At the 25-minute mark, she scored again, this time from outside the box. The Wildcat goalie got her hands on the ball but could not stop the shot from trickling in, giving Needham an early 2-0 lead. Laporte now has four goals on the season.

Weymouth struggled to generate chances as the Rockets dominated possession of the ball throughout the first half. Needham continued to pressure late in the first, and scored again on a breakaway opportunity from senior Izzy Marino, her third goal of the season. They would score once again in stoppage time on a long shot from sophomore Belen Schreier to make it 4-0 at halftime.

Ten minutes into the second half, the Rockets were awarded their first corner kick of the game. Junior Sam Levine took the kick and connected with sophomore Joy Lee, who was crashing in toward the net, but a Weymouth defender stopped the ball from crossing the goal line with her hands. Schreier took the penalty kick for Needham and scored her second goal of the game, third of the season, to make it 5-0.

Four minutes later, the Rockets got another opportunity on a corner kick and like last time, Levine sent the ball into Lee, who scored her first goal of the season on a header, giving Needham the 6-0 victory.

In their first three games this season, the Rockets are averaging over four goals per game and have only allowed one goal.

Needham will go on the road to face rival Wellesley on Thursday, Sept. 17.
