Town Wary of Development at Border

• With a large-scale development proposed in Dedham near the Needham border, the Needham Select Board approved a letter at its Tuesday meeting that would offer the town a chance to be heard.

The Campus at 128 — a nearly 60-acre project composed of residential, commercial and lab space — would be located along the Dedham Avenue exit off of Route 128. Select Board members initially received notice of the proposed plans at their May 26 meeting.

Board members and Needham residents have raised concerns over potentially negative impacts the development may have for Needham’s traffic and environment. But given the project’s location, the town is limited in its jurisdiction.

However, the scale of the proposed development required an environmental notification form to be submitted to the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act Office. This offered the Town of Needham an opportunity to weigh in on the project. The Select Board approved the draft letter at its Tuesday meeting.
