Odd Lot Becomes Focal Point for Housing Initiative
October 31, 2024
• Needham Select Board members voted on a building proposal, which would include affordable units.
The day after Town Meeting approved new zoning laws regarding multi-family housing, the Select Board heard from a developer interested in pursuing a project at 339 Chestnut Street. Due to the lot’s small size, even the revised zoning rules would not be liberal enough to allow the development to proceed. So it came before the Select Board to see if, with their support, there could be another way forward through the creation of affordable housing units. Yuxiao Yuan looks at what is being proposed and how the Select Board reacted.
