New Fee Aims to Fund Stormwater Work
May 23, 2024
• Water and Sewer bills will include a new fee which will fund work necessary to reduce the pollution attributed with water that runs off into the stormwater system.
For years, the state has been requiring that towns clean up their act when it comes to the quality of the stormwater feeding into Massachusetts waterways. Up until now, the town had absorbed the costs related with that work. This year, they are changing that funding mechanism, moving it into a separate fee charged as part of your water and sewer bill. Municipal producer Yuxiao Yuan spoke with DPW Director Carys Lustig to learn about the fee, and what the money will allow the town to do.
