TM to be Asked: How FAR to go?
March 7, 2024
• A Needham resident submitted a Citizens’ Petition to be voted on by Town Meeting in May 2024. The goal of the petition is to reduce the number of overly large houses being built in Needham.
Over the years, many town residents have openly lamented the loss of smaller homes in Needham. With home-owners trying to maximize the amount they receive when selling, it is hard to fight the trend of selling to developers, who then replace the house with a more profitable one that maximizes the use of the property. The town has tried to pump the brakes on this type of activity in the past, but one resident is saying that now is the time to act more aggressively. He is hoping that Town Meeting will agree. Municipal Producer Yuxiao Yuan looks into the Citizen’s Petition being proposed this May, and what its proponent hopes it will accomplish.
