• Stay updated on the first weekend of Needham’s Postseason.
With the regular season over for everyone but Football, Needham’s Fall Sports teams will start postseason play this weekend. It all begins on Friday, November 1st, as Girls Volleyball, ranked #5 in the MIAA Division 1 Bracket, welcomes in Bay State Conference rival, #28 Braintree. The Round of 32 matchup is scheduled to begin at 4pm from the Needham High School A gym.
The Rockets Field Hockey team, ranked #24 in the MIAA D1 bracket, will head to old rival Wellesley, who received the 9 seed. That game will take place on Saturday, November 2nd at 1pm from Hunnewell Field at Wellesley High School.
Both Boys and Girls Soccer await the final Power Rankings and Bracket Release, expected to be coming on Friday. Currently, the Girls are ranked #5 in D1, while the Boys are #25.
Meanwhile, the defending state champion Girls Swim and Dive team will be competing in Sectionals at the MIT Pool Sunday, November 3rd at 8:30am. The Cross Country teams will be at the Frank Mooney Invitational on Saturday, as they prepare for the State Championships on Saturday, November 9th.
The Rockets Football team jumped up from #5 to #3 in Tuesday’s Power Rankings, thanks to Needham’s win over Weymouth in a battle of 6-0 teams that decided the Bay State Conference title. The Rockets will look to finish up a perfect regular season at 8-0 on Friday night, when they visit Framingham (1-6 this year) from Bowditch Field, with kickoff set for 6pm. Football Playoff Brackets will be released on Sunday.
The Needham Channel will be planning broadcasts for both Girls Volleyball and Field Hockey, at least recorded to air at later dates. But we will attempt to carry both games live on-air and online. We will also be sending a crew to Football at Framingham, to get highlights and (possibly) postgame reaction from the Rockets.
