Learning (and Teaching) How Needham Runs…

• As part of the Greater Boston Project, students decided to create an internship to give high school students the chance to see how local government works firsthand.
It is not so unusual nowadays for students to take part in an internship program while they are in high school. Getting out in the community, and taking a look at how things operate in “the real world” is a part of any modern education. It helps prepare young minds for what comes next. It is far more unusual for students to create a new internship program, not necessarily for themselves, but for those who would follow. That is exactly what four Needham High School students did, and it gave them insight into how things got done in the town of Needham. The best part? That knowledge is going to pay dividends well into the future, and those who participate will truly be making a difference.
